A view with a room

Fly Camping in the Coa Valley is much more than an overnight stay. It is an experience where you can dine and sleep in nature without sacrificing your comfort. Dinner under the stars paired with fresh local products, premium Douro and Port wines will lull you away for a night to remember.

Created to accompany the five star dining experience which is offered by MilesAway, the Hemingway-inspired Fly Camp offers you the opportunity to be ‘wined and dined’ in the most inspiring settings of the Coa and Douro valleys. This inspirational idea took off in collaboration with Rewilding Europe, and after a delicious meal and wine tasting you can rest your head on the cotton sheets surrounded by nature.

MilesAways core offering includes a fantastic wine pairing dinner, hosted on family owned vineyards and wild reserves such as Faia Brava. Owner, Mafalda Nicolau de Almeida was looking to increase the guest experience and an overnight stay became a great way to enhance the pleasure of the beautiful surroundings. Dinners include wine and port tastings with food pairing of home-prepared local cuisine. Tables decorated with classic white table clothes, crystal glassware, solar jar lanterns and safari style chairs set the tone and with only nature surrounding you, the stars flow from horizon to horizon.

The Fly Camp is a mobile camp already used in several locations, each inspiring and remote, including the Faia Brava Reserve. The Fly camp can accommodate up to eight guests in four rooms. Each room has comfortable beds, snug mattresses, cotton duvets and linen and a mosquito net (just in case). Romantically decorated with old books, wine crates and solar jars the camp’s atmosphere draws you back in time.

Built with locally sourced materials including a unique canvas cover, your room has no front nor back part giving you the most amazing views and mornings you will never forget. A separately located bucket shower and toilet are located close to the camp – the loo with an incredible scenic view.

Wake up and inhale the fresh air observing the sunrise over the valley, met with fresh hot coffee and orange juice, breads, selection of cheese and other homemade delights.

The Fly Camp is a without a single doubt, a once in a lifetime experience. It is best suited for groups of four adults and upwards. Due to safety reasons, Fly Camp limits the access for children younger than 12 years.

Miles Away offer a variety of extended trips and experiences in the region, including guided wine tours, private Quinta stays and other unique offers.

The Fly Camp was developed with Rewilding Europe in cooperation with local entrepreneur Mafalda Nicolau de Almeida, who owns Miles Away andthe Fly Camp.  A low-cost loan was offered through Rewilding Europe Capital, with Rewilding Europe also providing ongoing technical and operational support.
